“Praenomen”: in ancient Rome a person first name. I chose it as a title because this was the first painting I finished in 2015. This was after starting to paint again having taken a break for a number of years. The title is enigmatic and mysterious enough so that I do not have to commit any content to it.

I would describe the painting thus: Painting of a female head wearing a headpiece with one orange horn and with a yellow background.

It was to be the first of a series. Which it might still be. But I am not actively working on a series. Like a number of my paintings this was not preplanned. I worked various layers of random marks over each other. Some of these layers were images I saw, other images I imposed. At one point the work was the other way up. In that version the orange horn and square eye belonged to a parrot.
